(CUL) TURKISH PROFESSOR IVGIN RECEIVES PUSHKIN PRIZE.ANKARA, Nov 16, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Turkish Professor Hayrettin Ivgin (66) won the Pushkin Prize The Pushkin Prize was established in 1881 by Russian Academy of Sciences to honor one of the greatest Russian poets Aleksandr Pushkin (1799-1837). The prize was awarded to the Russian who achieved the highest standard of literary excellence. presented for literary excellence by the Institute of Russian Literature (the Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Ivgin who has written 44 books and over 2000 articles on literature and folklore was awarded for his novel "Manas" and his overall contriuton to the world literature. "I am touched and honoured by the prize. I am excited to be the first Turk to receive this award, " said Ivgin. Ivgin's works and articles are translated into Turkic languages Turkic languages Family of more than 20 Altaic languages spoken by some 135 million people from the Balkans to central Siberia. The traditional division of Turkic is into four groups. and Chinese, Romanian, Italian, French, German, English and Russian. He will receive the prize at a ceremony to be held in Moscow in December.
