With only days to go in what is shaping up to be the closest Presidential and Congressional elections in 40 years, America Online (NYSE:AOL) today announced cutting-edge, online coverage for Election Night, November 7th, 2000 that will provide AOL's more than 25 million worldwide members with an exciting array of opportunities to monitor, react to, and discuss this year's election results.

AOL plans a full day and evening of online election programming for our members online -- a virtual "E-lection Block Party" -- so members can share in the excitement of election results right from the convenience of their homes with a front-row seat to every key race in the country.

"This election might be one of the closest in modern history, but in the age of the Internet, we don't have to worry about getting the headline wrong in the morning, like 'Dewey Defeats Truman'. On Election Night, AOL will be offering:

Gubernatorial races as provided by the Associated Press;

-- Updated, easy-to-follow national maps and charts marking the Presidential
popular and Electoral College vote;

-- "Results Tracker" - a mini-screen with the very latest election results that
will stay on members' screens as they use other features on the AOL service -
like email, chat and Shop@AOL - or the web;

-- "AOL Live Chat", where members pose questions to over 20 national
journalists - from Time Magazine, CNN, and CBS News - about early returns and
final results;

-- "Insta Polls" of the 25 million members who join us online on Election
Night, which will enable a real-time reaction to developing stories and

The recently released 2000 America Online/Roper Starch Cyberstudy of the adult online population showed that close to half (45%) will go online to get information about one or more of the Presidential candidates.
