'You'll never fool all of us all of the time' Mailbag.SO YET another deadline missed for the beleaguered be·lea·guer tr.v. be·lea·guered, be·lea·guer·ing, be·lea·guers 1. To harass; beset: We are beleaguered by problems. 2. To surround with troops; besiege. St George's Square and are we now going to get another councillor make a statement about why the budget has been overspent but what good value for money it's going to be. Forget it! As the saying goes: "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time.'' The people of Huddersfield Huddersfield, city (1991 pop. 147,825), Kirklees metropolitan district, N central England, on the Colne River. Its textile industry, including cotton, woolen, and rayon goods, is important. Other products are machinery, iron goods, chemicals, and dyed fabrics. have been fooled for long enough. What we need is a stable council with people in positions who listen to the people and work together to deliver on their behalf. Local elections can't come sooner enough and I for one welcome any new candidates who say what they're they're Contraction of they are. they're be going to do after proper consultation, listen to the people they are supposed to be serving and do it. Having looked at the list of people employed in Kirklees departments, it's no wonder it can take years to get a decision made about anything or actions get lost when another body is elected and shelve shelve v. shelved, shelv·ing, shelves v.tr. 1. To place or arrange on a shelf. 2. all the previous ideas (some I agree for the better). There could be no stronger argument than the sheer size of Kirklees for both Huddersfield and Dewsbury to be returned to their own borough councils. With a smaller 'team' of people, the chain of command would be shorter with fewer meetings and more action! Kirklees isn't a town with people, homes and livelihoods, but Huddersfield and Dewsbury are. I'm certain the people of Dewsbury dislike the tag of Kirklees as much as the people of Huddersfield, so bring on the debate and let's return to what makes sense. TONY GLEDHILL Kirkburton |
