"I must have been about six or seven and I can still see it," Sheila, 67, told the Echo. "It was always held on a Sunday when the store was closed. We were escorted through the empty shop and first taken to the Christmas grotto. Sheila, of Caerau in Cardiff, also recalls the awards her dad, who was still working for Howells when he died in 1960 aged 55, received for good service. She said: "During his career he was presented with badges, issued for safe, accident-free driving. These badges were in the shape of an oak leaf.
