The sweepstakes highlights the need for a single, universal power architecture for electronic devices. Such a standard could prevent hundreds of millions of power supplies every year from being tossed into landfills - maximizing resources, minimizing solid waste, and conserving energy.

It's all quite simple: look under your desk and take a snap of what you find there and post to http://greenplugcontest.typepad.com/. Be sure to write a suitable caption for your picture. Green Plug will randomly select a photo submission from those received and announce the big winner on Earth Day 2008, April 22.

"Subscribe to our feed and keep connected to the Green Plug movement," Paniagua said. "We're the first grassroots movement for green tech in the consumer electronics industry. And don't forget to join our consumer petition appealing to Washington for a universal green power standard."
