He was elected in the 2007 general election. said: "I think it is entirely appropriate that Muhammad Ali will be named first honorary freeman of the town and that the council should also look at naming a street after him. "Muhammad Ali is one of the most iconic and instantly recognisable sportsmen in the world." Ennis Mayor Frankie Neylon confirmed the town is considering a street naming in light of the historic visit and added: "We will never get an opportunity like this again."
