Lief Bar and Restaurant, in Penny Lane, wants to serve punters until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

But angry neighbours, who fought a bitter battle with the venue's former management when it was called Alma de Santiago, will object to the plan.

Residents are still reeling from a drive-by shooting drive-by shooting Public health A phenomenon in which one or more persons–commonly members of street gangs, open fire à la Al Capone from moving vehicles, often in retaliation for an alleged wrong-doing by a rival gang  at the bar in August when two bouncers were injured, described as "the worst incident in Allerton for a decade".

Drinkers were standing outside the venue when a gunman opened fire, hitting one doorman in the stomach and another in the leg, before speeding off in a car.

Lief currently operates regular pub hours, from 11am-11pm, and has now submitted a planning application to Liverpool council to stay open one hour longer on Fridays, Saturdays and to stay open until 11.30pmon Sundays.

One neighbour said: "We will definitely object to this, as it is late-night hours in the middle of a residential area. The shooting raised things to a new level and we don't want to go back to the problems of noise, litter and illegal taxi ranks snaking down the road outside our homes."

Lief opened in September and is the latest reincarnation of the former Doverdale Towers pub, which was turned into the swish Alma de Santiago, part of the Korova group.

Fowler's career began with Liverpool, with whom he made his debut in 1993.
and Mikey from Big Brother were spotted in the venue in its first 12 months.

Lief manager Richard Smith said: "When we opened, we sat down with residents and got them on board. There have been no complaints since we took over. A lot of our customers are residents.

"We have created a gastro-pub, not a late-night nightclub."

Ward councillor Richard Kemp said: "There is not the same volume of people causing problems outside."
