'WILD CARD' USED AGAINST GANG.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD -- Police arrested 19 suspected members of the Vineland Boys gang Tuesday on narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  and gun-possession charges after learning the notorious street gang was gathering weapons to commit violent crimes, police said Tuesday.

Dubbed "Operation Wild Card," the raid -- part of an ongoing effort against the gang -- included almost 200 Los Angeles police officers and Los Angeles Unified school police, who hit 15 homes before dawn, mostly in the North Hollywood area, police said.

Wild Card is the LAPD's effort to challenge a particularly active and violent clique of the gang, known as The Jokers.

The clique is blamed for the death of rookie Burbank Officer Matthew Pavelka and the wounding of his partner, Gregory Campbell, in a 2003 shootout Shootout

In Tuesday's raid, police found at least six guns, including a shotgun and a MAC 90 assault rifle, Fournier said. They also found marijuana stashed inside a diaper box.
