PLANS for five new jails to replace the aborted pounds 1.3bn Titan project were unveiled by the Government yesterday.

Justice Secretary Jack Straw said the rethink on building three vast prisons, each holding 2,500 inmates, was prompted by advice from experts.

"I've concluded the right approach is to deliver the 7,500 places not through Titans but five jails holding 1,500 offenders, each divided into smaller units," he told the Commons.

The first two will be at Beam Park West in Barking, East London East London, city (1991 pop. 240,474), Eastern Cape, SE South Africa, on the Indian Ocean.
