'This is not war on Islam'.


THE Archbishop of Wales The Province of Wales in the Anglican Communion was created in 1920, as the Church in Wales, independent from the Church of England (of which the four Welsh dioceses had previously been part).  today urged the public to remember that the military action in Afghanistan is 'not a war against Islam'.

Dr Williams said: "It is too early for anyone to comment on the effectiveness of this action, but we continue to hope that every effort will be made to avoid civilian casualties Civilian casualties is a military term describing civilian or non-combatant persons killed or injured by military action. The description of civilian casualties includes any form of military action regardless of whether civilians were targeted directly.  and to keep firmly in focus the aim of securing those believed to be guilty of last month's outrages.

"We shall be thinking of British servicemen and women and their families in the days ahead, as well as the many thousands whose lives will be affected by this new stage of the conflict.

"This is not a war against Islam War against Islam (also War on Islam, or Attack on Islam) is a critical term used to describe a perceived campaign to annihilate Islam, using not only military but economic and cultural means. , and we must continue to work at building trust with other Muslim fellow-citizens here, who share our hopes for a world free of terror."

Dr Williams was preparing for a morning seminar with local clergy in New York, near the World Trade Centre, when two hijacked planes hit the centre's towers.
