In return, consumers will receive a free pink ribbon pin in appreciation for their contribution. "With this campaign we hope to reach the $250,000 mark and have every confidence we will meet that goal," says Terry Wheatley, Senior Vice President of Sutter Home Family Vineyards "The money raised through this effort will fund grants to a wide range of breast cancer research and treatment facilities in 2005." A breast cancer survivor herself, Wheatley knows first hand how advances in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are saving women's lives every day. Winery owner Vera Trinchero Torres also knows. Vera and Terry were diagnosed with breast cancer within several weeks of each other. As they fought the disease with surgery and follow up care, the two women knew they were in a position to help further the cause of organizations committed to a cure. In fact, the position they were in was a leading one. The winery's White Zinfandel is amongst the country's top table wines and enjoys tremendous consumer awareness...especially among women. The winery, again this year, will feature neck collars on its bottles of White Zinfandel and the label will feature additional information about the program. The program, which runs for five months, includes National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. in October. On a year round basis all labels on the wines produced by Sutter Home Family Vineyards remind consumers of the winery's day-in, day-out commitment to finding a cure for breast cancer. "We have received thousands of letters in response to the Sutter Home for Hope campaign," remarks Wheatley. "Many of these letters are from women, but we get quite a few from men writing about their experiences with a mother, wife, sister or daughter who has battled the disease. We continue to get letters every day. It feels really good to know that you are touching these people's lives and letting them know that we understand - first hand - what they are going through and we are dedicated in our commitment." Additional information about the "Capsules for the Cure" program can be found at www.sutterhomeforhope.com. The website provides program details, an interview with Terry Wheatley, and a variety of items available for purchase, all of which have been hand-crafted by an employee or friend of Sutter Home. All proceeds from the sale of these items will fund the Sutter Home for Hope program, which is a year-round initiative for the winery. The program was conceived in 2001 by winery owner Vera Trinchero Torres and senior vice president Terry Wheatley, who were diagnosed with breast cancer within weeks of each other. Through surgeries and treatment, these two women are now cancer-free and continue to be an inspiration and the driving forces behind Sutter Home for Hope.
