OPPOSITION Assembly leader Nick Bourne Nicholas Henry Bourne, commonly known as Nick Bourne, (born 1952) is the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly for Wales and a Conservative Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales. His interests include visiting museums and art galleries, travelling, walking and sport.  AM urged the First Minister to end speculation about when he would step down.

He said: "Rhodri Morgan has been a pivotal figure in Welsh politics for many years. No-one can question his commitment to the Assembly and to Wales.

"But the sooner he ends speculation about his retirement the better for all of us in Wales.

"At a time of economic crisis, the Assembly needs leadership and direction, not uncertainty over the First Minister's future and a battle of political ambition between the colleagues who want to succeed him."

Responding to Peter Hain's speech, Shadow Secretary of State for Wales The Secretary of State for Wales is the head of the Wales Office within the United Kingdom cabinet. He is responsible for ensuring Welsh interests are taken into account by the government, representing the government within Wales and overseeing the passing of legislation which is  Cheryl Gillan MP said: "Peter Hain forgets that at successive elections in Wales Wales has elections to four tiers of government: 22 unitary local authorities, the National Assembly for Wales, the United Kingdom Parliament and the European Parliament. Local Government  more and more people have voted for change under the Conservatives.

"Peter Hain and Labour are trying to frighten voters but people have seen Labour's track record over the last 12 years and that's what frightens them most.
