'TREASURE OF VALLEY' SAUGUS BREAKS GROUND FOR 15TH CAMPUS - WITH A VIEW.Byline: Eugene Tong Staff Writer SAUGUS - Golden shovels struck pay dirt on a wind-swept hillside Wednesday as Saugus Union School District The Saugus Union School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Saugus, Valencia, and Canyon Country communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California. As of March 25,2006, it has 15 elementary schools. officials broke ground on their 15th campus, slated to serve the residents of a new 1,500-home housing tract. Tesoro Del Valle Elementary - named after its surrounding development - is expected to accommodate about 720 students when completed in 2005. The district secured most of the funds for the $13.5 million campus after some two years of negotiations with builders Montalvo and SunCal Cos. The school site rests on a plateau amid rows of stucco stucco (stŭk`ō), in architecture, a term loosely applied to various kinds of plasterwork, both exterior and interior. It now commonly refers to a plaster or cement used for the external coating of buildings, most frequently employed in tract homes, with vistas of the surrounding canyons - an ideal setting for education, Superintendent Judy Fish said. ``We have a vision of an excellent learning environment and a beautiful view,'' she said. ``This vision is mirrored by the vistas we have.'' Citing author Henry Miller, Saugus school board President Jonathan Myl compared growth - and coping with it through campus construction - as a ``spontaneous, unpremeditated'' leap in the dark. ``We, too, experience a leap in the dark as we deal with the growth and overcrowding overcrowding overcrowding of animal accommodation. He also noted the absence of Newhall County Water District members, who pushed through a resolution that questioned whether the city had enough water for further growth. ``You don't see them here'' at this celebration, he said. The resolution could halt development in Newhall's service areas, which includes parts of Tesoro Del Valle overseen by Montalvo. Water board members are concerned that water estimates used to determine how much development can be accommodated are inflated. But project manager John Evans John Evans may refer to:
