The mothers of three of the 96 victims were given the assurance by Home Secretary Alan Johnson in a face-to-face meeting. The release of previously hidden documents, in cooperation with South Yorks Police, will be co-ordinated by The Hillsborough Independent Panel, to be set up in the coming weeks. It could start sifting through papers in September. Officials said victims' families would see the papers before they are made public.
