THE comparisons between Gordon Brown and silver screen character Rocky Balboa are not immediately obvious.

But yesterday, the embattled Prime Minister, like the fictional boxer, defied the odds to survive a flurry of blows in round after bloody round.

It is difficult to imagine, however, him going the distance and coming out as the unlikely hero.

While no killer punch has yet been dealt, the repeated jabs have left him severely weakened and it will take some extraordinary moves to fend off further attacks.
