SolidWorks Corporation today announced it is again sponsoring the world's premier engineering event for emerging technologists, the 2004 FIRST Robotics Competition The FIRST Robotics Competition is a high school robotics competition organized by FIRST. As of early 2007, 1,303 high school teams of 32,500[1] students from Brazil, Canada, The Netherlands, Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and others compete to  Championship.

This year students have designed robots to race around a playing field collecting and passing 13-inch balls to human teammates who attempt to shoot the balls into goals. The robots also attempt to hang from a 10-foot bar. This year, SolidWorks Corporation's monetary support of FIRST will help to finance the Ambassador Program for the 2004 FIRST Robotics Competition Championship. The Ambassador Program recruits and assembles -- from the ranks of FIRST sponsors, advocates, leaders, and VIPs -- a corps of individuals who will work year around to promote FIRST in their own communities.

"Learning to solve problems, to cooperate with others, and to communicate effectively -- when combined with the principles of math, science, and technology -- form the building blocks of a solid education," said Rosanne Kramer, director of worldwide education markets for SolidWorks Corporation. "We applaud Dean Kamen's belief in the importance of helping young people see the value of education and careers in science, technology, and engineering. SolidWorks is proud to support the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship, and to help foster a new generation of design engineers for the future."
