DETECTIVES investigating the murder of schoolgirl Raonaid Murray say the 17-year-old may have been killed by a woman.

The tragic teenager was stabbed to death around 500 yards from her home in Silchester Crescent crescent, emblematic representation of the quarter moon. The crescent and star, ancient Byzantine symbols that became the emblems of Constantinople, were also assumed as the standard of the Ottoman Turks. , Glenageary, South Dublin South Dublin (Irish: Contae Átha Cliath Theas) is a county in the Republic of Ireland. A Garda source said: "We are working on the assumption that this is not the work of a random killer.

"It is likely Raonaid knew her killer as there is no record of a similar attack happening before or after this crime anywhere in the Dublin region."

Despite interviewing 8,000 people and taking 3,000 statements, gardai have remained baffled and no motive has emerged.

There have been 12 arrests to date but no charges were ever brought.
