'ROCK STAR': DUDE, WHERE'S MY BAND?Byline: DAVID KRONKE TV Critic THERE'S A RITUAL sacrifice, and then there's scheduling your new show opposite ``Friends'' and ``Survivor.'' Both are too good for ``My Guide to Becoming a Rock Star.'' The WB's new comedy stars Oliver Hudson (Goldie Hawn's son) as Jace Darnell, a self-deluded hunk who's positive his big break with his band SlipDog is just around the corner, despite the lifeless responses to the band's live sets and fans who freely offer their derogatory commentary. He's too busy dancing in his underwear to Duran Profiat Isaac ben Moshe ha-Levi Duran, 1350–1414, called Efodi, was born probably in Perpignan, France, but he moved to Catalonia. In 1391, when widespread massacres of Spanish Jews resulted in mass conversions, Duran was one of the many who professed Christianity but in reality remained true to his faith. He ultimately returned openly to Judaism. Duran in his bedroom to think through any career goals. (A Girl Scout observing the spectacle outside his window notes, ``Nice ass,'' which tells you everything you need to know about the show's comic sensibility.) Two episodes air tonight, bringing the ever-evolving band together. Jace scrounges off his parents (his dad's a metalhead who thinks his music stinks) and heads to the unemployment office, where - well, let's just say tonight's pilot offers the most unlikely scenario in recent TV history See video/TV history., in which a sexy young caseworker flirts randily with this beleaguered scofflaw traipsing through her office. Band members include pal Doc (Kevin Rankin), perky but moody bassist Josephine (Lauren Hodges), hip, level-headed DJ/keyboardist Sarah (Emmanuelle Vaugier), the aforementioned unemployment office babe who Jace attempts to impress with his microphone work. There's also a revolving-door series of drummers, a joke blatantly and shamelessly cribbed from ``This Is Spinal Tap spinal tap: see spinal puncture..'' Given the unoriginally puerile puerile /pu·er·ile/ (pu´er-il) pertaining to childhood or to children; childish. humor that pervades the show and its devastating time slot, a better title might be ``My Guide to Getting Canceled.''
