'RIVER,' 'OTHELLO' WIN ADAS.

The Deaf West love fest continues.

``Big River,'' the sign language musical produced by the NoHo-based theater company Deaf West Theatre Founded in 1991, Deaf West Theatre Company has become a cultural institution serving as a model for deaf theatre worldwide. It is noted for being the first professional resident Sign Language Theatre in the western half of the United States. , was the top winner Monday night at the Artistic Director Achievement Awards. The production, which is now playing at the Mark Taper Forum The Mark Taper Forum is a small thrust stage with 745 seats at the Los Angeles Music Center built by Welton Beckett and Associates. It has presented innovative plays since 1967. The world premiere of Angels In America was produced here. , took eight awards, including best musical.

The other big winner was the avant-garde Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre, which took six ADAs for two productions: the mystery thriller ``Love Me Deadly'' and a version of Shakespeare's ``Othello'' set in the fashion world. ``Othello'' qualified as a comedy. The anything-but-stuffy ceremony started late, but finished in time to allow host Fritz Coleman to get to NBC NBC
