LANCASTER Lancaster, city, England
Lancaster (lăng`kəstər), city (1991 pop. 43,902) and district, county seat of Lancashire, NW England, on the Lune River.
 - ``Lord of the Rings'' fans waited in line for as long as 5 1/2 hours outside Lancaster's Cinemark 22 theater for the trilogy's concluding episode.

First in line for the 10:30 a.m. show was Richard Reynoso of Palmdale, who purchased tickets last week - not realizing there was a midnight screening - then arrived at 5 a.m.

``This morning I woke up really early and said, why not come, and it was like 20 degrees outside,'' said Reynoso, laughing. ``I really do hope it's really good because I stayed out here since 5 in the morning.''

Farther back in line was Londoner Moira McVicar, 63, who flew in from England on Friday to watch ``The Return of the King'' with a friend of 45 years, Doreen Thompson Thompson, city, Canada

 of Lancaster.

``It's opening there (England) the same day as today but I wanted to see it with my friends,'' explained McVicar. ``The fans here are more demonstrative LEGACY, DEMONSTRATIVE. A demonstrative legacy is a bequest of a certain sum of money; intended for the legatee at all events, with a fund particularly referred to for its payment; so that if the estate be not the testator's property at his death, the legacy will not fail: but be payable  than they are over there and they get involved.''

The two women met in England when they were 18.

``We're very keen 'Lord of the Rings' fans,'' said McVicar. ``They're wonderful, absolutely wonderful. I've always loved the books.''

Arriving an hour before the 10:30 a.m. show, Brant brant or brant goose, common name for a species of wild sea goose. The American brant, Branta bernicla, breeds in the Arctic and winters along the Atlantic coast.  and Alicia Goodwin of Lancaster found themselves about 100 people back from the front of the line.

That was a considerably better position than for ``Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers'' last year, when they were at the end of a line which wrapped completely around the theater.

``We've waited three years. It's just one of the biggest stories written and Peter Jackson Jackson.

, I think, did such a great job doing it and making it the way it was in the book,'' said Alicia.

Alicia Goodwin said she was very understanding of Liv Tyler's expanded role as Arwen in the movie - a sore point among ``Lord of the Rings'' traditionalists, who note in J.R.R. Tolkien's book she doesn't appear until near the end.

``I like Liv Tyler Liv Tyler (born Liv Rundgren, on July 1, 1977, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, New York[1]) is an American actress and model. She is best known for her roles of Grace Stamper in Armageddon and Arwen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.  personally, and to bring a more dominant female character into the story ... to bring her into that character and to add a little more romance I guess brings a lot more for the girls,'' said Alicia.

Inside the theater, employees tossed in 20 beach balls for the audience to play with during the 30-minute wait before the movie started. Every 10 minutes or so a fan would call out the time.

When the movie started its title sequence, it shut off after a second or so and the screen advertisements resumed. That happened three or four times.

Each time the audience waited patiently until the staff got the movie going right.

At key points in the film, the dialogue was punctuated with applause and cheers from the audience.
