A TRAINEE detective whose sensitive investigation led to the jailing of shamed healer Stuart Hill has been commended for cracking the case.

and reflexologist was jailed for eight years after a "painstaking" investigation by DC Suzanne McManus exposed his abuse of clients.

Hill, 57, preyed on women who came to him looking for treatment.

But the skill of 34-year-old DC McManus also saw him placed on the sex offenders' register and banned from administering treatment to women.

DC McManus launched her inquiry after the first victim complained she had been assaulted while on the treatment table and it was discovered 57-year-old Hill had been previously jailed for sexually assaulting clients.

The officer undertook the "painstaking" task of examining his mobile phone, diary and other records to identify other potential victims to build up a picture of his offending.

It was established that the accused, who had been formally trained, convinced his victims to remove their clothing to get the full benefit of his treatment. It was then the offences were committed.

Experts involved in the training of reflexologists and masseurs confirmed the conduct was far beyond the bounds of acceptable practice.

DC McManus contacted 60 potential witnesses and took numerous statements before the suspect was charged with nine offences. Senior officers and Crown Court lawyers were united in their praise of her "extremely thorough and intricate investigation".

Durham Crown Court heard Hill was supposed to be massaging his victims' feet when he touched them intimately.

Hill gained the trust of his patients and told them he was using the latest Chinese massage technique to make them better at his Meridian Massage practice in Neville's Cross, Durham.

The defendant claimed this would make the victims orgasmic, which would make them feel better. But they reported being abused and a jury convicted him of the charges..The high standard of the officer's work resulted in the conviction
