``I'm just very honored and very humbled by being in the presence of all these other women who have done so much,'' Winn said. ``You never think you're doing all that much. You are just doing what needs to be done.''

Winn, 56, a resident of Lancaster, was appointed to the high school board in April 2002 and then elected in November 2003.

Winn chaired the successful campaigns to pass Antelope Valley College's $139 million bond in 2004, the high school district's $103.6 million bond in 2002, and the Lancaster School District's $29 million bond in 1999.

In 2001, the library at Amargosa Creek Middle School was named at the school's grand opening for Winn in recognition of the countless hours she has spent volunteering for the Lancaster School District.

Although her two children were no longer in the district, Winn still devoted time to school programs and headed the district's 1999 bond campaign.

While the Lancaster district has named schools and facilities in honor of trustees, company CEOs and teachers, never before had it bestowed the honor on a parent.

Winn was named the Lancaster district's top volunteer in 1998 when she received the Golden Apple Award. She also received two PTA awards from Joshua School for outstanding service.

At Joshua, where her two daughters attended, Winn was known informally as the Snow Cone snow cone
