'ONMYOJI' PART OF JAPAN'S FILM TRADITION.David Kehr's review of the current Japanese film ``Onmyoji'' (U, April 26) is up to his usual standards, except for one glaring misconception. Claiming that the film is a hybrid of both classic Japanese samurai samurai (sä'm rī`), knights of feudal Japan, retainers of the daimyo. This aristocratic warrior class arose during the 12th-century wars between the Taira and Minamoto clans and was films (i.e. Kurosawa's ``Yojimbo'') and Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov. fantasy (or Wuxia Films) is off the mark. Japan's cinema is loaded with epics of errant mystical warriors, from such films as ``Yamato Takeru'' (1994), ``Shikonmado-Dai tatsumak'' (1964), ``Dai Tokozu'' (1963) as well as the Zatoichi and Lone Wolf and Cub Lone Wolf and Cub (子連れ狼 Kozure Ōkami series of the '60s and '70s, respectively. That simple misconception could leave viewers to believe that the current film is solely a calculated attempt to cash in on a specific genre. While that may or may not be the case, stating that the film has no cinematic benchmark within its nation of origin is not correct. -Ronald Strong Burbank Beastie Boys Beastie Boys is a hip hop musical group from New York City consisting of Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and the official DJ for the group Michael "Mix Master Mike" Schwartz. remain relevant Enduring the 2 1/2-hour trudge from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. out to Indio, the massive crowds and stifling body heat, dust-ridden windstorms, two-hour traffic leaving the parking lot and the bureaucratic consumerism of the annual Coachella Festival just to experience the intense energy of the ever-youthful Beastie Boys in their first local show in five years was more than worth it.
