'No functions on Pakistan, Defence days'.

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 13 -- A special Corps Commanders Conference was held on Thursday at the General Headquarters to review the flood situation in the country and ongoing relief and rescue activities by the army. ) General Ashfaq Kayani chaired the meeting. Participants took a comprehensive overview of the flood situation and the ongoing relief and rescue operations by the army. The COAS expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and damage caused to private property and public infrastructure by the floods. He directed the formations to continue reaching out to the marooned people and emphasised that the dearth of resources must be overcome through personal sacrifices and efficient management. He announced that the army's functions on August 14 and September 6 would not be held this year and the savings would be utilised for relief activities. Kayani stated that the army would continue to work round the clock and at full capacity to assist the civil administration and the National Disaster Management Authority to provide relief to the affected people.
