'NJ Transportation Improvement Program Ready for Review'.PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1999-- Summary: Public review of the Delaware Valley The Delaware Valley is the name of the metropolitan area centered on the city of Philadelphia in the United States. Commission's (DVRPC's) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the New Jersey portion of the region extends from May 27, 1999 through June 28, 1999. The comment period includes two public meetings; Written comments may be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to DVRPC DVRPC Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission . Concurrent with the public review of the TIP will be the public review of one proposed amendment to the DVRPC Year 2020 Long-Range Plan. Through June 28, 1999, Delaware Valley residents will have a unique opportunity to influence the region's future. That date will conclude the 30-day public review period for the draft Fiscal Year 2000-2002 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the New Jersey portion of the Delaware Valley (including Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer counties) and on a proposed amendment to the DVRPC Year 2020 Long-Range Plan, as updated in January, 1999. The comment period opened on Thursday, May 27, 1999. DVRPC will hold two public comment meetings on the draft TIP and proposed Plan amendment. The meetings are being coordinated with the New Jersey Department of Transportation The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) maintains the State Highway system in New Jersey. It is headed by the Commissioner of Transportation. The present Commissioner is Kris Kolluri, Esq, who was sworn into office as Commissioner on March 13, 2006. It operates bus, light rail, and commuter rail services throughout the state, notably connecting to major (NJ Transit), and will serve as an opportunity for comment on New Jersey's State Transportation Improvement Program(STIP). The public meetings are scheduled prior to consideration of the TIP and Plan amendment by the DVRPC Board in July, and are transit, bicycle and pedestrian accessible. At each meeting, DVRPC staff will provide an overview of the draft TIP and proposed Plan amendment with time for questions and comments following each presentation. Coscia, DVRPC Executive Director. THE FY 2000-20002 TIP The DVRPC TIP for New Jersey contains nearly 160 projects totaling about $840 million over three years. It includes $480 million in projects related to the highway system and $360 million in transit related projects. The proposed Plan amendment is the Delaware River Delaware River River in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York, U.S. Formed by the junction of its eastern and western branches in southern New York, it flows about 405 mi (650 km) to empty into the Atlantic Ocean at Delaware Bay. Navigable to Trenton, N.J. Port Authority's for an aerial tram connecting the Camden Waterfront to Penn's Landing, Philadelphia. Copies of the draft TIP and proposed Plan amendment are available for review at numerous libraries throughout the five county region, as well as in DVRPC's library, and on the DVRPC webpage at www.dvrpc.org. The production of the final TIP, which is required by federal law, is the culmination of the transportation planning process, and represents a consensus among state, regional and local officials as to what improvements to pursue. The TIP document lists all projects using federal funds Federal Funds Funds deposited to regional Federal Reserve Banks by commercial banks, including funds in excess of reserve requirements. Notes: These non-interest bearing deposits are lent out at the Fed funds rate to other banks unable to meet overnight reserve , all regionally significant non federally funded projects, and virtually all state funded capital improvement projects. The projects include bicycle, pedestrian, ITS, and freight related projects, as well as the more traditional highway and public transit projects.
