``Nemo'' managed to quickly surpass the previous DVD record of 14.5 million copies sold last year by ``The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.''

``I'm not saying we are going to surpass that title, but ('Nemo') will be the first one to challenge it,'' said Buena Vista Home Entertainment President Bob Chapek. ``'Lion King' had no competition in the marketplace. It's a different time than it was then, so in terms of sales Terms of sale

First-day sales alone were phenomenal - a record 8 million copies - besting the 7.5 million copies of ``Spider-Man'' sold on its opening day last fall. ``Nemo'' came out of the gate strong, partly due to unusually strong online pre-sales from such retailers as Wal-Mart.com, which expects the movie to become the site's biggest-selling film to date.

Disney will continue its marketing push for ``Nemo'' in the coming weeks with holiday shopping on most people's agenda.

``There will be a big holiday campaign with a gift-giving push around Thanksgiving,'' Chapek said. ``I think you will continue to see strong momentum on this title.''

``Nemo,'' is the latest in a series successful Pixar Animation Films released by Disney. Others include ``Monsters, Inc.,'' ``Toy Story'' and ``A Bug's Life.'' The next Pixar film from Disney is ``The Incredibles'' scheduled for November 2004 followed by ``Cars'' during the 2005 holiday season.
