'NATURE OBSERVED' NOW AT THE OAKS DOZENS OF ARTISTS FROM AREA FEATURED.

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  -- An exhibit featuring the work of Ventura Ventura (vĕnt`rə), city (1990 pop. 92,575), seat of Ventura co., SW Calif., on the Pacific coast in a farm and oil region; inc. 1866.  County artists called "Nature Observed: Painting, Sculpture, Photography and Prints" is being presented at The Oaks regional shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  in Thousand Oaks through Sept. 3.

 will be featured in the exhibit on the center's upper level at the northeast end, across from Anthropologie in a satellite display for the Museum of Ventura County.

"We really wanted to let people in eastern Ventura County know what we have," said Susan Gerrard, marketing director for the Museum of Ventura County.

Admission is free, as are all special events there, including a painting demonstration by David C. Gallup July 14 and a photography open house and sale Aug. 5, both from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
