'My demo crush fear'.


AN office worker detained amid 3,000 May Day protesters told yesterday how he feared a repeat of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Geoffrey Saxby, 47, was held by police at Oxford Circus Oxford Circus is the area of London at the busy intersection of Regent Street and Oxford Street, in the City of Westminster. It is served by Oxford Circus tube station, which is directly beneath the junction itself. , London, for over seven hours at the anti-globalisation demo in 2001.

Mr Saxby, of Hastings, East Sussex, told the High Court that police pushed the crowd "seemingly without any concern for our safety...I was constantly reminded of the tragedy at Hillsborough".

He and receptionist Lois Austin, 35, are suing Met police for false imprisonment false imprisonment, complete restraint upon a person's liberty of movement without legal justification. Actual physical contact is not necessary; a show of authority or a threat of force is sufficient. The person falsely imprisoned may sue the offender for damages.  and breach of liberty. The case continues.
