'Multiplexed, Whole-Genome Genotyping' Live Webcast to Take Place July 21, 2004.

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- A virtual seminar on "Multiplexed, Whole-Genome Genotyping," presented by Genetic Engineering News (www.GENseminars.com), will take place on July 21, 2004, at 12 p.m. EST. This live webcast--the latest in GEN's ongoing series of educational virtual seminars for biotechnology/biopharmaceutical researchers--will address multiplexed whole-genome assays for the study of genetic variation as relevant to pharmacogenomic and disease-association research, with reference to the International HapMap Project The International HapMap Project is an organization whose goal is to develop a haplotype map of the human genome (the HapMap), which will describe the common patterns of human genetic variation. .

Presenting the talk will be David Barker, Ph.D., Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer at Illumina, Inc., who has contributed to post-genomic research with the development of widely used imaging, sequencing, and microarray technologies.

Also presenting will be Kevin Gunderson Kevin Gunderson (Born September 16, 1984 in Portland, Oregon) is a Minor League Baseball pitcher who played for the Oregon State Beavers of Oregon State University before being drafted by the Atlanta Braves. , Ph.D., Principal Scientist, Illumina, Inc., whose research has focused on novel assay and array technologies.

Thomas Hudson Thomas Hudson can refer to:
  • Thomas Hudson (painter), an English portrait painter of the eighteenth century
  • Thomas Hudson (poet), part of the Castalian Band at the court of James VI of Scotland
  • Thomas J. Hudson, a Canadian genome scientist

The focus of the journal is on genome-wide studies in any organism, including single gene studies that are placed in a genomic context. , will moderate the event. Dr. Hudson's work is internationally recognized for advancing robotic systems and DNA-chip-based methodologies for genomics research.

This 90-minute virtual seminar will include/address: an overview of international efforts to define the human haploptype map; methods and impacts of assay multiplexing; enhanced assay specificity through enzymatic discrimination; whole-genome content design; unconstrained SNP SNP Scottish National Party

"High-resolution maps of common genetic variation in the human genome The human genome is the genome of Homo sapiens, which is composed of 24 distinct pairs of chromosomes (22 autosomal + X + Y) with a total of approximately 3 billion DNA base pairs containing an estimated 20,000–25,000 genes.  are almost here," says John Sterling, Editor-in-Chief of Genetic Engineering News. "This seminar will illustrate novel techniques that can best be used to mine this information for pharmacogenomic and disease-association studies."

Registrations for "Multiplexed, Whole-Genome Genotyping" are limited to ensure interactive participation. Following the presentation will be an extensive Q & A session, with worldwide participation. For further information and online registration, visit www.GENseminars.com.

Genetic Engineering News (www.genengnews.com) is the most widely read publication in the biotechnology industry and the only high-frequency publication focused on international bioindustry news. Established in 1981, GEN is also the oldest biotechnology publication, having covered the industry since its inception. GEN is published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., a privately held, fully integrated media company known for developing authoritative peer-reviewed journals in several established, and upcoming, areas of science and biomedical research Biomedical research (or experimental medicine), in general simply known as medical research, is the basic research or applied research conducted to aid the body of knowledge in the field of medicine. .
