'More' owners add ... more.Byline: RETAIL By Joe Mosley The Register-Guard SPRINGFIELD - Just when Brian Bach and Cory Churchill convince you they really do have More of Everything, they come up with this: More of Everything. And in particular, more Oregon Lottery The Oregon Lottery is run by the State of Oregon. "It has all the lottery - including the slot machines, or poker machines," Bach says. "So it's more like a NASCAR-themed miniature sports bar and not a convenience store like the others are." Bach and Churchill opened their first More of Everything store at Eugene's Valley River Center Valley River Center is a shopping mall located in Eugene, Oregon. "We started doing the regular lottery games, with scratch tickets and Megabucks A lot of money! , in 2002," Bach says. "We knew the next step was to add the video poker and all that." The More of Everything owners planned to debut their lottery-based strategy in Eugene's River Road area, but preparation of a storefront was derailed by zoning issues. The spot near Gateway Mall's food court became available about the same time, and they jumped on the opportunity. "We have all the Gateway Mall customers, plus all the apartments across the street and the hotels around there, and the new hospital is coming," Bach says. "It's going to definitely be a big, productive area." Ron Glover, the general manager at Gateway, says Bach and Churchill have been easy to work with and he was happy to bring More of Everything into a second mall location. "They have this type of product that is something people want," Glover said. "We've found it to be a good fit." The new Gateway location is about 900 square feet, compared with 650 square feet at each of the convenience stores, and is partitioned to create a private lottery gaming room in the rear. Bach and Churchill had most of the fixtures they needed, other than bar stools and tables, and estimate that it took less than $10,000 to get the latest More of Everything up and running. "The (Oregon Lottery video) machines came in about 11 o'clock on the first day," Bach says. `By 1, they were all (full). My partner, Cory, got there at 2, and it's like `we're a full house.' It was instant gratification. `A lot of people are coming in to play the lottery while their spouses are shopping or their kids are at the movies,' he says. "It's a great way to spend your day at the mall." Glover, the mall manager, adds that the new business has been popular "even for (mall) employees on breaks." The store - which sells "snack-type foods and sandwiches" to go along with its on-premises beer - has four video lottery machines for now, but Bach is hoping to show enough usage to justify a fifth machine when Oregon Lottery officials review sales this spring.
