today announced an Internet contest to remix re·mix
tr.v. re·mixed, re·mix·ing, re·mix·es
To recombine (audio tracks or channels from a recording) to produce a new or modified audio recording:
a new track provided by multi-platinum recording artist Beck.

This innovative 45-day contest will be available exclusively on LAUNCH.com (www.launch.com) beginning Wednesday, Nov. 24, to coincide with the Nov. 23 release of Beck's new album, "Midnite Vultures." Beck will personally select the winning remix, which will then be released as a track on a future Beck single.

Sonic Foundry has created a customized version of their ACID software exclusively for the Beck remix contest. The track, aptly titled "Mixed Bizness," will be broken into 56 loops, with only 12 loops initially available for remixing. The remainder of the loops will be made available nine per week, during the 45-day length of the contest.

Users are encouraged to update their remix with newly added loops, plus any of their own loops they wish to incorporate. User tracks are then submitted back to LAUNCH and many will be posted on the site. At the end of 45 days, Beck himself will select one Grand Prize winner and 10 runners up.

The Grand Prize winner will have their remix included on a future Beck single and Sonic Foundry will provide the winner with a copy of ACID Pro 2.0 as well as the entire Loops for ACID library. Runners up will receive ACID Music software courtesy of Sonic Foundry.

Beck broke into alternative rock's mainstream consciousness with the track "Loser," taken from his 1994 release "Mellow Gold." Each successive Beck release has maintained his artistic integrity, showcasing his ability to push the creative envelope as his career has progressed. "Midnite Vultures" looks to further ignite the collective imagination.

"The Beck promotion will show users that two turntables and a microphone aren't the required tools to create a Beck remix. ACID tools will enable LAUNCH.com users to have fun on our site by being interactive and creative," said Ted Mico, VP, Marketing and Promotions.

"This contest continues our commitment to enable the Web's music community to create unique content, and lets music fans showcase their talents with one of the most inventive musicians on the planet."

LAUNCH.com currently offers exclusive artist biographies and features, album reviews and concert information, digital downloads and one of the largest music video libraries on the Web. Personalization capabilities allow users to create customized music home pages, giving members exclusive access to chart-topping and emerging talent.
