'Medi-Kate' joins the battle.


A ROBOT nicknamed 'Medi-Kate' has been installed at Ysbyty Gwynedd's pharmacy to help dispense drugs more swiftly.

The machine is an example of initiatives under the Saving 1,000 Lives Campaign.

Elfed Roberts, chairman of the North West Wales West Wales is the western area of Wales bordered by South Wales to the east. The area is loosely-defined, but is generally considered to include Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, southern areas of Ceredigion, and sometimes the city of Swansea, .  NHS Trust National Health Service Trusts (NHS Trusts) provide many services of the National Health Service in England and Wales. They are not trusts in the legal sense but are in effect public sector corporations. , said: "There are many advantages of robotic dispensing, it is much faster than the manual system and it reduces the risk of dispensing errors, improving efficiency and cost control.

"The robot even does its own housekeeping, rearranging and tidying the shelves overnight while the pharmacy is inactive."

Pharmacy staff have been saved miles of walking each day to collect drugs before dispensing them, freeing up pharmacists This is a list of notable pharmacists.

Five half-day clinics, which provide direct patient care and improving patients' understanding and knowledge of their medicines, have been introduced as a result.
