We are men and women who served our county as a volunteer or at the request of Uncle Sam Uncle Sam, name used to designate the U.S. government. The term arose in the War of 1812 and seems at first to have been used derisively by those opposed to the war. Possibly it was an expansion of the letters "U.S. and were wounded or injured in·jure tr.v. in·jured, in·jur·ing, in·jures 1. To cause physical harm to; hurt. 2. The VA has had long-standing difficulties in keeping up with the first-time claims and appeals.
