'JOBLESS YOUTH NUMBERS SOAR'.Byline: BOB ROBERTS THERE has been a massive surge in the number of young people out of work, research figures reveal. Prince's Trust chief executive Martina Milburn said it was the poorest youngsters who were being hardest hit by the recession. She added: "Britain's most vulnerable will be permanently damaged by the downturn, unless they receive support. "We need to help young people into jobs, only with their creativity will we be able to pull ourselves out of the recession." A separate survey said almost half of companies were not planning to recruit school-leavers this year. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said young people face a "long, hot summer" looking for work. A survey of 500 firms showed only one in five planned to take on 16-year-olds.
