TV couple Gary Lineker and Danielle Bux are rarely lost for words - except when they're in Northern Ireland.

But the pair, filming a new series of Northern Exposure, almost choked on their flakes when they were asked did they want a poke.

Match of the Day presenter Gary explained: "I had no idea that the language was so different over here.

"When we were asked if we wanted a poke I didn't know what to say but it turned out to be a local word for an ice cream cone.

"So Danielle and I ended up having a poke in Fermanagh. It was a lovely poke, the best one we have had in ages. When people talked about eating a curry chip I thought they meant just one chip but that was just another way the language is different.

"People were always saying 'dead on' to us as well which was OK but when people talked about being 'scundered' I had no idea what they meant at all.

"I think it meant embarrassed or fed up or something like that."

The England football legend and his fiancee have spent the past six weekends exploring Northern Ireland in a vintage sports car. They spent 48 hours in each county for the BBC1 NI show trying to unearth quirky things to do.

Danielle said: "We both love travelling and going to new places so the chance to travel and work together was too good to miss.

"It seemed like a bit of fun but it exceeded our expectations. People were so welcoming I've put on half a stone because everywhere we went people fed us cakes.

"We also got to do some really unusual and exciting things such as hovercraft racing, water skiing and husky trekking.

I went mountain biking in Co Tyrone which was great until I came off as I cycled through a stream and went flying into the water. I still have the bruises to prove it."

Gary and Danielle's Northern Exposure starts next Friday - July 24 - on BBC1 NI.
