Our plants in Germany and Singapore are perfectly complemented by our assembly centers in America and China. Our international teams work closely together--today physical distance is no longer a problem." During the opening ceremony, company executives noted that they chose Singapore for its Siplace activities in Asia because of the country's developed infrastructure (making logistics and customs much easier), supplier network, IP protection, and highly educated and qualified workforce. Unlike other companies that focus on price drivers and concentrate in China, Brandis says Siemens is looking to differentiate itself through added service, support and warranties. "We're not looking for Looking for In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Antithesis of in touch with. price wars, we're looking for performance," Brandis explained. "Innovation is what the customer buys. If you look at the companies providing big chipshooters, they are doing poorly because they are price-driven, offer little value and have little money for innovation." SCA locally sources 50% of its modules and components, with the proportion set to increase to 60 to 70% when manufacturing on two more series of machines begins in Singapore. Siemens is also looking to increase staff in the area: a total of 240 employees, around 95 of them R&D engineers, could be hired by the end of 2006. The company aims to expand Siplace's market share in Asia to 25% over the next five years. Edited by Mike Buetow |
