'IT WILL RISE AGAIN' MORE AREAS ARE OPENED TO PUBLIC AT GRIFFITH PARK.

Parts of Griffith Park Griffith Park is a large public park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is situated in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park covers 4,210 acres (17 km²) of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America.  were reopened Friday as city officials reiterated plans to spend $50 million to restore the park after a brush fire this month that burned 900 acres.

The Zoo, located in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, is home to 1,200 animals from around the world.
 and other unburned areas opened soon after the May 8 blaze, park officials announced the reopening of more popular attractions.

Aluminum products, bottled mineral water, clothing, and pharmaceuticals are produced, and there is gas processing.  and Park Center picnic areas, Shane's Inspiration, Trail's Cafe and Upper Ferndell Area are now open to visitors. All burn areas, including hiking and equestrian trails, remain closed, and smoking and fires are prohibited in the park.

City officials have already embarked on a $5 million plan to clear debris and control erosion by July.

The Griffith Park fire, the largest the park has experienced in 46 years, destroyed 20 percent of the nation's largest urban park as firefighters worked overnight to save such landmarks as the newly refurbished Griffith Observatory and the L.A. Zoo.

After the first phase of the cleanup, city officials plan to spend an additional $20 million stabilizing slopes and repairing flood control systems by December.

By 2010, the city expects to spend $25 million more to plant trees, repair trails, build roads, restore natural habitats and rebuild such panoramic lookouts as Dante's View and Captain's Roost.

"This is a good plan that will cost us a lot of money, but it'll restore the beauty and majesty of this park," said Jon Mukri, general manager of the Department of Recreation and Parks. "The plan is to make the park better than it was before."
