'IDOL' SPARES REMAINING 6, HELPS CHARITY.

The six "American Idol American Idol is an annual American televised singing competition, which began its first season on June 11, 2002. Part of the Idol franchise, it originated from the British reality program Pop Idol. " finalists breathed a sigh of relief Wednesday night when none of them was voted off the show.

Instead, "Idol" became a star-filled fundraiser for the newly formed Charity Projects Entertainment Fund, which helps relief programs for children and young people in extreme poverty in the United States Poverty in the United States refers to people whose annual family income is less than a "poverty line" set by the U.S. government. Poverty is a condition in which a person or community is deprived of, or lacks the essentials for, a minimum standard of well being and life.  and Africa.

The generosity flowed to the contestants, too, and the six remaining contestants got another week in the spotlight.

After a parade of pop stars, including Kelly Clarkson Kelly Brianne Clarkson (born April 24 1982) is an American pop rock singer. Clarkson made her debut under RCA Records after she won the highly publicized first season of the television series American Idol in 2002.  and Celine Dion, show host Ryan Seacrest Ryan Seacrest (born December 24, 1974) is an American radio and television personality. Seacrest is also a former children's game show host, who gained prominence as the host of the reality television amateur-search series American Idol.  said, "How could we let anyone go on a charity night?"

The more than 70 million calls and text messages counted this week will be added to next week's tallies, Seacrest said. That means two contestants will be kicked off May 2. The remaining six are Melinda Doolittle Melinda Marie Doolittle (born on October 6, 1977) is an American singer who finished as the third place finalist on the sixth season of American Idol. Prior to her appearance on American Idol , Blake Lewis, Phil Stacey, LaKisha Jones, Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks.
