'I want to play' says McGinley.


PAUL MCGINLEY Paul McGinley (born December 16, 1966) is an Irish golfer who plays on the European Tour. He is most famous for holing the winning putt for the European team in the 2002 Ryder Cup. He currently resides in Sunningdale, England.

McGinley was born in Dublin.
 was a huge hit as a captain in Paris last week, but he wants to be an even bigger success as a player in Scotland over the next four days.

The 42-year-old Dubliner can take it as read that Colin Montgomerie Colin Stuart Montgomerie, OBE (born June 23, 1963) is a Scottish professional golfer often referred to by his nickname 'Monty'. He has had one of the finest careers in European Tour history, having won a record eight Order of Merit titles including a streak of seven consecutively  will ask him to be one of his assistants at next year's Ryder Cup if he fails to make the team.

It will also be a major surprise if he is not leading Europe against the Americans at Gleneagles in 2014.

But McGinley would prefer not to be seen yet as just a captain-in-waiting. He hopes that his off-course part in helping Britain and Ireland beat Continental Europe again can spark an on-course resurgence, starting with this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (previously simply called the Dunhill Links Championship), is one of the richest golf tournaments on the European Tour. It is played over three links courses in Scotland, with the final round being played on the Old Course at the "Home .

"I still want to be player. I don't want to go down the road of being an official - I don't know if I'm ready for it yet," he said.
