'I don't know if I'm good enough for Wales yet'.

Gavin Henson today conceded he's still below his best form - but remains hopeful of a Wales recall before the end of the Six Nations.

Henson's return following a seven-week ban last night provided a timely boost for Welsh rugby in the wake of Mike Ruddock's sudden exit as Wales coach earlier this week.

And the controversial centre, who played a key role in the Ospreys' narrow victory, insisted he can still play a pivotal role in the rest of the championship.

'It's great to be back but I'd forgotten how tough it was and for the first 20 minutes I was waiting to get my second wind.

'But I was pleased with how my kicking went, even if I was quite rusty.

'Am I ready for Wales?

'It's out of my hands and up to the people in charge.

'But that's why I play the game - to play for Wales and I would love to be back in a Welsh shirt as soon as possible.

'I don't know if I'm good enough yet and that's not for me to decide.

'But what I would say is that I'm nowhere near my peak yet.

'If that was the case I would be pretty disappointed with my display against the Borders.

'I've had four games all season and that's not much rugby in seven months.

'So it's about getting my form back week in week out for the Ospreys.'

However, former Wales captain Mike Hall believes Henson is not yet ready to be thrown into the deep end in Ireland next Sunday.

'Wales shouldn't pick him in Dublin, it's too much pressure for him,' he said, speaking on BBC Wales' Scrum V.

'After more games maybe he'll get in for last Six Nations game.'
