Now hospital bosses have admitted the delay was unacceptable and hope she can be seen by a consultant next week.

Primary six pupil Kaya, from Aberdeen, was diagnosed with hearing problems when she was still at nursery.

She had an operation in November 1999 but was furious when she recently received a letter saying her latest check-up appointment had been cancelled for the sixth time.

Kaya's letter, sent this week to Number 10, said: "I am writing this letter to you because on 22/11/99 I had an operation but I still haven't been for my check-up.

"It makes me feel very, very, very angry inside that I have had to wait so long for a check-up. I mean, HELLO!

Kaya's proud mum Anji, 35, said: "She did it all by herself - I was really surprised when she showed me the letter.

Anji added: "She had the guts to write the letter but that's the sort of girl she is.

"It has been upsetting for her and she has been worrying - but she is a very determined girl.

"The operation seems to have worked well, but Kaya is a 10-year-old child and worries about these things.

"Now she's just waiting for Tony Blair's reply."

Just to make sure the authorities got the message, Kaya also wrote to First Minister Henry McLeish Henry McLeish (b. June 15 1948, Methil, Fife, Scotland) is a Scottish politician.
