'Hair' creator Tom O'Horgan passes away.Byline: ANI London, January 14 (ANI): American theatre and film director Tom O'Horgan, well known for creating hit hippie musical Hair, has passed away. He was 84. The director, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. , breathed his last on Sunday at his home in Venice, Florida Venice is a city in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,764 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2004 estimates, the city had a population of 19,990. It is noted for its large snowbird population. . The cause of his death has not been revealed as yet. O'Horgan left no immediate survivors, reports the Daily Express. O'Horgan was also revered for making such Broadway plays as Jesus Christ Superstar, Lenny and Inner City. He earned a Tony Award nomination in 1969 for Best Direction of a Musical, on the back of the success of Hair. The musical is still very successful, and a new Broadway production of the show is scheduled to open on March 31. He is also credited with discovering actors Frederic Forrest, Ben Vereen and Ron Perlman. His work was honoured with three Drama Desk Awards for his Off Broadway direction. He was also named theatrical director of the year by Newsweek in 1968.
