'HOLIDAY SPLENDOR' IN STORE MASTER CHORALE'S SIXTH SEASON OPENS SATURDAY.Byline: Daily News The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, Master Chorale chorale (kōrăl`, –räl`), any of the traditional hymns of the German Protestant Church. The form was developed after the Reformation to replace the plainsong of the earlier service and as a means of congregational participation in will begin its sixth season of making beautiful music with an early winter concert, ``Holiday Splendor,'' a family-pleasing array of seasonal songs and carols, enlivened en·liv·en tr.v. en·liv·ened, en·liv·en·ing, en·liv·ens To make lively or spirited; animate. en·liv en·er n. with the sound of brass and bells. The 60-voice chorale, under the direction of Allan Robert Petker, will perform favorites of the ages along with the best of contemporary holiday music during two concerts this weekend. Leading off the program will be a special selection of Petker's original compositions. A highlight will be guest artists the Alchemy Handbell Ensemble and their director, Boude Moore, who will accompany Petker's carol arrangements as well as perform selections of their own. Familiar carol arrangements will include ``There is no Rose,'' ``Silent Night,'' ``I Wonder as I Wander'' and ``O Come, O Come, Emmanuel O come, O come, Emmanuel is a translation of the Christian Latin text ("Veni, veni, Emmanuel") by John Mason Neale in the mid-19th century. It is a metrical version of a collation of various Advent Antiphons (the O Antiphons .'' The chorale will also perform selections from K. Lee Scott's joyful Christmas cantata cantata (kəntä`tə) [Ital.,=sung], composite musical form similar to a short unacted opera or brief oratorio, developed in Italy in the baroque period. , ``The Incarnation,'' and the majestic ``Canite Tuba'' by Donald McCullough accompanied by a complement of brass.
