The origin of playing cards is unknown, and almost as many theories exist as there are historians of the subject. . ``He was a card shark,'' Wilson said, remembering the times she and her sisters played with their grandfather. ``He was crazy with cards, especially gin. ``We played for nickels, and he had a jar filled with them. It was such an accomplishment for us to win.'' Donald Byron Peltier was born May 30, 1918 in Crookston, Minn. He served as a paratrooper in the Army during World War II, stationed in Europe and North Africa. Peltier is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine; son, Roger; three granddaughters; and a sister, Leah Wick. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Finbar Catholic Church, 2010 W. Olive Ave., Burbank. Private interment will be at Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village.
