LANCASTER - Playing small-ball in the home run-happy High Desert might seem odd, but that's what worked for the JetHawks in a 7-4 victory over the Modesto A's in the team's home opener before 2,861 Thursday night at Lancaster Municipal Stadium.

Local products Victor Hall and Doug Slaten Douglas Slaten (born February 4 1980 in Venice, California), is a baseball pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks franchise.
