'HARRY' HOLDS FANS SPELLBOUND.

Harry Potter is already working his magic.

 was there, walking the red carpet surrounded by a gaggle of giddy children.

``Animals talk and kids love that,'' said actor Cuba Gooding Jr., who attended with his kids. ``That's what makes the movie so fascinating.''

Before the show, anticipation was high, particularly among the children.

``I'm especially looking forward to Quidditch and the trolls,'' said Jake Collins, 8, of La Canada Flintridge. ``And I really want to see what happens when Harry Potter makes the glass disappear and the snake comes out.''

His 10-year-old sister, Peyton, said she wanted to see how they did the magic and what the characters look like in the movie. She said her favorite Potter characters are Harry and his pals Ron and Hermione.

After the film, kids streamed out of the theater, beaming with happiness. They loved it.

``It was great,'' said Jacob Stern, 12, of Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. . ``It was so good. I loved the part where Harry gets the sorcerer's stone.''

Jacob's 7-year-old sister, Rachel, couldn't stop smiling as she talked about the actor who played Harry.

``He was so real,'' she said, as her mom and dad took her home after a late night.

Nearby, the Uretz brothers were giddy as they recalled favorite scenes.

``When Ron risked his life for Harry, it was so good,'' said Wiley Uretz, 11, of Malibu. ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Meanwhile, screenwriter Steve Kloves is adapting the third book in the series, ``Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,'' and Rowling is busy at work on her fifth Potter title, ``Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,'' to be published next year.

The first two film sequels are slated for November releases in 2002 and 2003.
