'HALFWAY HOME' IS HALFWAY CRACKED.

Byline: David Kronke

Television Critic

While "The Office" sort of posits life in the workplace as a prison sentence from which there is no parole, Comedy Central's new series "Halfway Home Halfway Home may refer to:
  • Halfway Home (album)
  • Halfway Home (TV series)
Not to be confused with:
  • Halfway house
" is more frank: Life is a prison, or, at least, a post-prison rehab facility.

"Halfway Home" essays the misadventures of a hapless band of former inmates being eased into society through the Crenshaw House The Crenshaw House (also known as the Crenshaw Mansion, Hickory Hill or, most commonly, The Old Slave House) is a historic former residence and alleged haunted house located in Gallatin County, Illinois. , where inept supervisor Kenny (Kevin Ruf Kevin Ruf (born on December 7, 1961, in Wilmington, Delaware) is an American actor. He currently stars on the Comedy Central show Halfway Home as Kenny Carlyle, the house supervisor of a halfway house. ) rousts them for 3 a.m. urine tests (they've hidden a clean sample in the toilet tank) but mainly ignores their needs.

The cast includes "The Office's" Oscar Nunez Oscar Nunez (sometimes credited as Óscar Núñez) is a Cuban American actor and comedian. Born in Cuba on November 18, 1958, he was raised in Union City, New Jersey. In 1997, Nunez graduated from the Warner Brother’s Comedy Writer’s Workshop and was a finalist in  as former male prostitute Eulogio, Jordan Black as C-Bass, a kid from the suburbs with terrorist inclinations; Regan Burns as arsonist/nebbishy narc Alan; Jessica Makinson as addled ad·dle

doper Carly; and Octavia Spencer as the poorly named Serenity, a hotheaded hot·head·ed
adj.

 former armed robber.

Some of the material is pretty inspired 7/8 C-Bass' suicide-bomber farewell tape ends with him signing off, "Peace," then, after he reconsiders, adding, "-- and war." A future episode has the inmates opting to return to prison, because it at least is air-conditioned.

Some of it, however, is decidedly less so: A future episode hinges on the men in the house suffering from erectile dysfunction Erectile Dysfunction Definition

Erectile dysfunction (ED), formerly known as impotence, is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection long enough to engage in sexual intercourse.
; not even the sight of Carly on a pogo stick can move them.

As the actors become more comfortable with their roles, "Halfway Home's" wit and punch should improve. For now, its humor is hit and miss or, in Serenity's case, hit and more hitting.
