It was taken in 1958 or 1959 from the roof of St George's Warehouse by Barry Shepherd, of Dewsbury Moor Mr Shepherd, 66, was a clerk in the goods yard at the time. He sent the picture to the Examiner after reading about the memories of David Walsh in the March 15 edition. Mr Walsh, 66, of Deighton, spent nearly 50 years working on the railway, starting as a messenger before becoming a train guard. Mr Shepherd said: "We worked together during my time there. I was only in the warehouse for about a year before moving to Brook Motors. "Huddersfield was a lot different then. It was a good time." Work has started on a multi-million-pound scheme to transform the semi-derelict warehouse into a complex of offices, shops, flats and possibly a hotel. |
