'GIRLS' JUST WANTS A GOOD TIME SLOT.Byline: - David Kronke ``The Gilmore Girls Gilmore Girls is an American television drama/comedy created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. The series premiered on The WB on October 5, 2000 and ended on May 15, 2007, with its seventh season, which aired on The CW Television Network. ,'' one of the - if not the - best new shows of the season, has a hard time buying a break. It airs Thursdays opposite the ratings juggernaut that is ``Friends,'' so the WB thoughtfully decided to give it a shot in another time slot Continuously repeating interval of time or a time period in which two devices are able to interconnect. . Which hardly seems to be much of an improvement - tonight at 9, opposite not one but two staggeringly popular series, ``The West Wing'' and ``The Drew Carey Drew Allison Carey (born May 23, 1958) is an American comedian, actor, and game show host. After serving in the U.S. Marines and making a name for himself in stand-up comedy, Carey eventually gained popularity starring on his own sitcom, The Drew Carey Show Show.'' Nonetheless, ``Gilmore Girls'' is worth sampling. In tonight's episode, Rory (Alexis Bledel) somewhat sheepishly sheep·ish adj. 1. Embarrassed, as by consciousness of a fault: a sheepish grin. 2. The women return with a holiday episode at 9 p.m. Thursday in which Lorelei's father (Edward Herrmann) is hospitalized. As usual, the quick and smart quippery, courtesy of creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, and the terrific rapport between Graham and Bledel is securely in place - this is easily the funniest new network series of the season. But there's also a nicely subtle bit of poignancy in Thursday's episode, when Graham and Herrmann swap a pair of sweetly helpless glances with one another, a mute exchange that speaks volumes.
