'GATOR' STORY WINS THE PRIZE.

GLENDALE - For Jo Crawford, the golden years Noun 1. golden years - the time of life after retirement from active work

At least, that's the story Crawford told - a tale that garnered her a new Dell computer as the winner of the ``Blast From the Past'' essay contest, sponsored by Adventist Health's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Medical Foundation.

Contestants were asked to complete the sentence, ``If I could re-live any year it would be...,'' and Crawford chose the day in 1961 that an alligator came calling.

``I thought `Why not enter?','' Crawford, now 70, said during an awards ceremony on Wednesday. ``Writing gave me something to do to feel useful.''

The foundation sponsored the contest in an effort to interest seniors in the hospital's illness-prevention and quality-of-life services.

``The hospital is not just a place you go when you are sick. It's better to be proactive about health care before you get sick,'' said Iris Weil, the foundation's chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Crawford works as a bookkeeper and a baby sitter but appeared to be pondering pon·der
